The Grosse Pointe Yacht Club is a premiere private marina and sailing club located on the shore of Lake St. Clair in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan. It's Junior Sailing program has gained recognition on a local and national scale graduating sailors who have gone on to the Olympics and professional sailing careers. GPYC sailing staff are U.S. Sailing trained and dedicated to providing a fun, safe, and eductional experience to its sailors. The program’s goal is to foster a life-long appreciation for both competitive and recreational sailing.
The GPYC Junior Sailing program is one of the few sailing programs that provides equipment to its sailors. This equipment made possible through the generous support of the Yachtsman's Committee and the Grosse Pointe Youth Nautical Education Foundation.
For over 25 years the GPYC’s Yachtsmen’s Committee has raised funds to promote and enhance the Junior Sailing programs at The Club. Most of the selected members are Past-Commodores and past and current Junior Sailing Parents. They work tirelessly year round to raise money to maintain low registration fees, support capital equipment acquisitions, parents with travel sailors, and education for all levels of GPYC Junior sailing.
Members of the Yachtman’s Committee formed the Grosse Pointe Youth Nautical Education Foundation, an IRC 501(c)(3) qualified community outreach program dedicated to promoting national and international amateur sailing, maritime arts and education, as well as, water safety and community improvements.
The Grosse Pointe Youth Nautical Education Foundation is an organization that benefits youth in the sailing community, in part, offering college scholarships to qualified high school sailors. Scholarships are made possible through the generous support of donars. For more information on becoming a donar visit: gpynef.org. For students interested in applying for scholarships see the bottom of this page for instructions and application. Students can qualify for a scholarship if they attended a junior sailing program at anytime. They do not have to be enrolled in a current high school program to be eligible.
In addition to its college scholarship donations, GPYNEF hosts two events that benefits its fundraising efforts. The Great Lakes Boating Festival and Summer Breeze Party takes place every spring at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club and is a fun filled weekend with activities for the entire family.
With an unsurpassed reputation in Detroit's yachting community, the GPYC is known as the place to be for southeastern Michigan boaters. This makes it the perfect venue for exhibitors to showcase the latest yachts on the market along with marine products and services.
Open to the public, the Boating Festival will feature a wide range of activities — including a vintage boat display, Dossin Museum display, jet skis and water toys plus the ever-popular wine tasting.
In conjunction with the Great Lakes Boating Festival (May 19th–21th, 2017), your family, friends, and colleagues are invited to attend what many GPYC members have referred to as “The Party of the Year” The Summer Breeze Party, Friday, May 19th, 2017! Mark your calendars now! Come and kick off GPYC’s own Great Lakes Boating Festival and the summer season, bid on fabulous items during the live auction, and dance the night away. This charitable event supports the GPYNEF and a portion of the tickets are tax deductible.

In 2012, the GPYNEF began annually awarding up to Ten (10) $1,500 college scholarships to young sailors in the Community and the Detroit River Yachting-Racing Association. This scholarship is available to high school seniors and college/university students who will attend college/university classes in the 2016/17 academic year. The assessment process will use the information provided from three main sections; written essay, sailing experience and academic achievement. The scholarships are designed to encourage young folks to continue to be active in Sailing activities throughout their high school years.
We presently have three (7) perpetual scholarships that are funded to continue to provide a named scholarship “forever”. This will allow us to award a scholarship, indexed for inflation, basically forever, for the life of the fund in the name of the donor. The cost of the perennial scholarship is $35,000.
